Captions and subtitles

SmoothCut writes captions from your voice with a speech model that runs on your own computer. Your audio is never uploaded.

The first time

1. Open the Subtitles panel and choose a speech model. The recommended one is about 75 MB.
2. It downloads once and is saved on your computer.
3. Press Generate subtitles.

After that first download, captions work offline.

Language

The spoken language is detected automatically. If accuracy matters more than download size, choose one of the larger models instead of the recommended one.

What else the transcript does

The same transcript is how SmoothCut finds filler words and abandoned takes, so they can be cut for you. See Auto fix.

In other formats

Captions belong to the edit, not to one export. Lay the project out as 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1 and they come with it. See Vertical and square video.
